Proposed areas of coverage and tuition via demonstration and student participation:

A comment to remember:

To produce a pearl a little sand is required … To interpret this … a little discomfort and irritation is required to produce something beautiful…put into photographic terms … getting up early and catching the light at the right time, being set up at the right location – putting up with a bit of possible colder conditions or heat while carrying kit over beaches – will result in outstanding images for your portfolio and may gain you some publicity and exposure of your work – beneficial for any future ambitions !

To produce something special  – a bit of effort, planning and creative outlook is required.

If it was all that easy – everyone would have great images – but after much research I can report that there are very few outstanding images of the area – something that we are going to rectify … the images we take during this time will be viewed worldwide and saturate the areas galleries for many years to come … not bad for a few days fun in Lyme !!!

Plan ‘B’ for poor weather conditions:

Although this area of the country offers photographic opportunity in all conditions – if the weather is deemed poor or unsuitable at any time for the arranged location – the following will be options:

 Lighting the ‘Greenhouse’ at the accommodation for set SMPS

 Underwater fashion shoot in swimming pool

 ‘fashion’ in the sea shots – using hand flash / underwater camera

 West walk path ( undercliff ) woodland shots

 Village hall studio set-up ( after Wednesday )

 Abbotsbury Chapel interior modelling shots

 Lyme Church interior shoot ( double exposure ghost shots ) Mary Anning lives …… or French Lieutenants Women .. long cloak  with hood – or mocked up with black material.

 Large format demonstration ( using Polaroid ). Camera movements. Lens / bellows implications. Taking ‘external’ meter readings.

 Photographic techniques and tutorial – accommodation based.

Lyme Regis –WBL - In brief what to take:

 A camera if you have one … /film/batteries/chargers – any photographic equipment or accessories you deem relevant

( flash guns would be very useful )

 Memory stick and / or blank DVD+R

 Camera memory card ( CF / Microdrive ) if possible

 A note book and pen

 Make-up kit ( for artists only )

 A large sheet / towel / blanket – for laying down during make-up application

For really great shots …. Clothing for models / modelling eg. Very light flowing dresses / material / corsets / cloak with hood for Victorian ‘French Lieutenants women’ look / something really different like gothic looking boots & clothing would look fantastic on beach cliff backdrops !!

 Any images - either in hard copy form or on digital media - of which you would like some feedback / comment / evaluation

As the weather can be unpredictable at this time of year …

 Warm clothing & walking shoes / boots / rain proof coat /  hat / gloves

 Sun glasses and suntan lotion

 At least one towel along with your personal clothing and effects

 ( music DVDs/ board games – what ever ! )

 A torch

 Swim wear / clothing to enter the pool - if you wish to be involved with the evening of the underwater fashion shoot

 A flask

 Your mobile phone and charger

 A rucksack / good bag to carry your kit over beach, rock and town environments

A sleeping bag / duvet if you are participating on the Saturday

We will be having our ‘Stairway to Devon’ beach party ( weather permitting ) on the beach in traditional fashion. As some of you know - there is a Tesco store a few miles from the accommodation - although it may be a good idea ( for those on a budget ) to purchase any drinks, foods / barbeque requirements – at home and bring it along with you. As before – the eating options are far ranging – from cooking at the accommodation, cafes and restaurants.

 ID if you require it !! Any medication you may require

A map if you are driving

WHATEVER YOU TAKE BARE IN MIND A CARS BOOT SPACE - KEEP IT PORTABLE!

Travel Notes

A van and equipment will travel very early ( it being a bank holiday ) to Lyme.

Anyone ( by arrangement )  can travel and follow Pete. Our departure is estimated at 5 a.m – with a meeting point at fleet services

( M3 ) at 6.30 latest.

Others are welcome to travel by themselves – ( suggested departure time should be 8a.m and no later than 9a.m: picking up those they have arranged to - in good time FOR EVERYONE TO MEET UP IN LYME REGIS AT 1P.M AT THE BOTTOM CAR PARK, opposite the Pilot pub, next to the chip shop, town clock – overlooking the sea (if coming in from the Charmouth direction - passed the restricted road width traffic lights then left at the foot of the high street hill ). If you miss the first turning for Lyme off the dual carriage way – you can take the second which will take you through Uplyme … in which case you will have to turn left into Lyme at the T junction – down the high street hill on the car park is on the right. At 1p.m the white Fusion Waterside high top van will circle round the car park ( doubt if there will be parking here – being a bank holiday ) and anyone there should follow and will be escorted to the accommodation.

THOSE LATE OR WHO MISS THE MEETING ‘CONVOY’ CAN MEET AT THE LODGES NO LATER THAN 2P.M – AS WE HAVE MUCH TO SORT OUT AND DO THEREAFTER ! You should proceed up the high street hill and follow the road ( do not turn off – its about 3 miles ish) until you see a petrol station on the right hand side …. Slow down and about ¼ mile on the right look out for the right hand turn saying Pinewood Homes … follow into the drive way and park in the first car park by swimming pool. Phone Pete who will then meet you. DO NOT TURN UP TO THE ACCOMMODATION BEFORE 1P.M. YOU WILL NEED TO BE DIRECTED BY PETE SHEPPARD !

ANYONE HAVING PROBLEMS OR DELAYS – THEN CALL PETE ON:  07904072206
