For a more complete and comprehensive overview -
Many students have the luxury of a warm room, laid on facilities to hand and the time needed to complete a project or exersise. Commercial practise rarely has these luxuries . When on location, many staff work in portercabins, vans, gazebos or exposed to the elemenstts. All shoots wether film, stills or thetre work is always worked to a very tight deadline. Those unable to work under these pressures dont survive in this very competitive and seen as disirable industry. The rewards can be great for those who succeed.
We recreate these conditions and expose students to the challenging and sometime stultifying surroundings found when on some locations.
A reconfiguration of their workflow is required, a understanding of risk assessment and health & safety issues not found at college.
Students have to ‘think on their feet’ and problem solve. Its a whole package of skills we try and induce.
We work closely with any college staff / course leaders to get the best out of the students.
This also helps with group bonding while working individually while part of teams.
Ever seen the film The French Lieutenants Women ? If so you may break into a smile a this student video clip !
Its just a bit of fun while students undertook a Work Based Learning Programme in Lyme Regis.
Another clip taken by students while on a location WBL programme.
It shows students at work and some finished results.
It briefly shows a little of a great event we help with each year in Devon. A historic
tram company ( Seaton Trams ) lay on a series of Halloween themed trams which travel
a line to a station destination. During the journey students having made up each
other, the tram staff and actors with masks, costumes, hair and make up in keeping
with Halloween -
travellers during travel, along the various stops and at the station.
Its great fun and experience to deadlines. Students also provide a demonstration to the public of the preparations during the day prior to the evening events.
This year it’s the 40th anniversary at Seaton trams so we will step up our involvement over a week period, with local press and TV documenting students at work.
To be part of this -
We regularly source new locations and real clients for students to work with. This was taken at a Theme Park in Devon where students set up a body and face painting service to the public and earn’t money
( which subsidised their time with us ) while the group were split into smaller pods to take turns modelling their costumes and make up skills ......
We take students to historic sites where they are able to explore the period work. They practise skills required for camera, film and theatre .... while having to work within location conditions.
