Fusion Waterside Studio, Vicarage Farm, Ivinghoe, Bed’s, LU7 9DY . England
We visit a course, give a presentation to students and establish how our input may
be beneficial to students and lecturers. We look to put forward some ideas on how
we can help students get ahead with a portfolio which illustrates the key skills
required for course completion with highest achievable results and one of interest
to industry.
Its not all about the images though ! Take the gallery example below .... these are
specialist make-up artists looking to design and apply product to all skin types
to a range of course briefs. In our experience, few actually are able to ‘view’ their
work and analyse accuracy but with specialist lighting, lenses and know how - using
close up and macro photographic techniques, students and their tutors are able to
revisit make-up via high quality images and develop skill levels. With the developments
in high definition / resolution photographic and broadcast capabilities, attention
to detail is more important than ever .... there's now know where for poor make-up
to hide ! Even wigging is going out in favour of hair extensions, spray application
of foundations and make-up over traditional ways are new skills that students need
to learn .... and see the difference of applications in print or on screen.
Even theatrical make up needs to be of higher quality with modern lighting, screen
projection of productions and broadcast more common place.
The gallery below shows close up images of make-up. The process of students going
through this process quickly illustrates how especially when they try and spend hours
in Photoshop cleaning up the images which could have been rectified in minutes (
or with more developed skills ) .... In industry no photographer wants to spend hours
in post production cleaning up mascara splashes and clogged eye lashes for instance
- that's why they book a professional make-up artist. We look to help students to
develop their visual awareness and industry requirements being able and confident
working with other professionals.
Students became much more critical of their output and made greater attention to
detail after just a few hours of taking close up images of their work - understanding
that software such as Photoshop is not the magical solution or time efficient solution
to sloppy work !
